5:00 - 6:00 pm CT
The University of Chicago Real Estate Investment Group (“UChicago RIG”) offers undergraduate students a platform to learn about real estate investing and to explore real estate related careers in a collaborative community. We are the first and only investment club on campus focused primarily on real estate investing. The ultimate goal of RIG is to provide educational and professional development opportunities for UChicago students with an interest in pursuing a career in real estate and learning about real estate markets, investing, and how real estate investment and urbanization impact communities. In addition to our core focus of real estate markets and our primarily finance based curriculum, we will aim to grow awareness of the social issues associated with real estate and plan on facilitating discussions related to these topics by bringing in speakers and publishing reports related to the social and environmental side of real estate.
The real estate workshop will walk through the benefits of portfolio diversification through real estate investments in publicly traded securities. RIG will walk attendees through the anatomy of a REITs (real estate investment trust) financial statements and corporate structure as well as the historical returns associated with investing in these securities and the valuation methodologies employed in REIT analysis. Alongside this, the workshop will touch on real estate private equity transactions and how capital is deployed in private real estate markets.
